What is the course about?

The aim of this qualification is to offer you a flexible bank of units that deliver an introduction to the motor vehicle industry providing an overview of potential occupations and job roles. The overall aim is to provide both experience and knowledge on which to base future career and associated course decisions, and to enhance employment prospects.

What is the course content?

  • Working safely and effectively during light vehicle maintenance and repair
  • Foundation skills for light vehicle maintenance and repair
  • Light vehicle construction and routine maintenance
  • Operating principles of light vehicle tyres, brakes, steering and suspension systems
  • Operating principles of light vehicle engines
  • Operating principles and maintenance of light vehicle transmission systems
  • Operating principles and maintenance of light vehicle electrical and electronic systems

 



How will it be taught?

Through working on cars in a practical workshop environment supervised by qualified staff.



How will I be assessed?

You will be assessed through coursework and by a written or on-line examination.



What can I do when I have completed the course?

Depending on your achievement you can:

  • Progress to an appropriate qualification at a local college
  • Progress to a post 16 Apprenticeship with a local training provider
  • Go into 6th form
