Engineering (Level 1)

What is the course about?

This course allows students the opportunity to gain a broad foundation of skills and knowledge in engineering and to get a foothold on the careers ladder. The objective of the qualification is to ensure industry has personnel with the broad skills and knowledge necessary.

What is the course content?

There are 3 mandatory units:

  • Working safely in an engineering environment
  • Working Efficiently and Effectively in Engineering
  • Using and Communicating Technical Information
  • Plus 2 other optional units

 

 



How will it be taught?

There will be practical demonstrations and activities in the workshop and theory lessons in a dedicated classroom.



How will I be assessed?

The units are assessed through coursework, assignments and a portfolio of evidence. A qualified assessor will observe and question you about the work you have done to test your knowledge and understanding as well as observing your actual performance.



What can I do when I have completed the course?

Depending on your achievement you can:

  • Progress to an appropriate qualification at a local college
  • Progress to a post 16 Apprenticeship with a local training provider
  • Go into 6th form
