This is a route that allows motivated and able pupils to study for vocational qualifications in collaboration with employers and training centre using work placements to contribute directly to the programme of study. Study is practical and applied with an expectation of 50 days work placement in a variety of engineering settings. Students gain a broad foundation of skills and knowledge in engineering and a foothold on the careers ladder. The objective of the qualification is to ensure industry has personnel with the necessary broad skills and knowledge. The qualifications are accredited as major components of the post 16 Apprenticeship Framework in Engineering and both must be passed to obtain the full qualification.

Theory:
There will be practical demonstrations and activities in the workshop and theory lessons in a dedicated classroom.
The units are assessed through coursework, assignments and a portfolio of evidence. A qualified assessor will observe and question you about the work you have done to test your knowledge and understanding as well as observing your actual performance. There is also a multiple choice examination and a written examination.
