What is the course about?

The Certificate in Motor Vehicle Maintenance and Repair provides an ideal opportunity to gain an insight into the workings of a garage.  The course includes work in health and safety, working with other people and the development of communication skills necessary to deal with the public. You will undertake work in vehicle maintenance and replacing engine units and components.

What is the course content?

  • Contribute to workplace good housekeeping
  • Maintain positive working relationships
  • Ensure your own actions reduce risks to Health and Safety
  • Carry out routine vehicle maintenance
  • Remove and replace engine units and components
  • Remove and replace auxiliary electrical units and components
  • Plus one optional unit


How will it be taught?

There will be practical demonstrations and activities in the workshop and theory lessons in a dedicated classroom.



How will I be assessed?

The units are assessed through practical assignments and a portfolio of evidence. A qualified assessor will observe and question you about the work you have done to test your knowledge and understanding as well as observing your actual performance. There are also on-line examinations.



What can I do when I have completed the course?

Depending on your achievement you can:

  • Progress to an appropriate qualification at a local college
  • Progress to a post 16 Apprenticeship with a local training provider
  • Go into 6th form
